Therapy is The New Black
My mission as a counselor is to stop the stigma in mental health care. There should be no shame is seeking professional help when you are battling depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harm, addiction or other issues due to ongoing relentless stress, overlooked life events, major life events, illness, loss of life, break-up/divorce, humiliating or disappointing experience, past traumatic experience or abuse etc. I believe that your past experience made you who you are today. What happened to you will always be a part of you, but it should not define you. Don’t leave yourself alone with your suffering. There are people who understand and who can help you.
If you go to a doctor to get a physical check-up every year, then you should also get a check-up from the neck-up. The mind is very powerful and our mental health is as important as our physical health. Telling your friends or the bartender about your problems will not help you. Guess what you just gave them? You just gave your friends something to gossip about and the bartender more reasons to give you more drinks so you can give him more of your money.
Seek professional help. Do it for your peace of mind. Make talking to your therapist be a part of self-care. Everyone needs someone to listen to them with empathy and without judgments. A professional counselor will….
